How are the displays different?
- The Nintendo Switch has a 6.2-inch display, while the Switch Lite “only” has 5.5 inches.
- The Switch OLED, on the other hand, has a larger 7.0-inch display with OLED technology.
- However, the rest of the technical features, such as the resolution, are the same.
- This means that the display on the Switch Lite looks a bit sharper than on the other two Switch models.
Smaller font: Note that fonts that were already barely visible on the original Switch are even smaller on the Switch Lite. Although there is the zoom mode by quickly pressing the home button twice, it can get annoying in the long run. The Switch OLED clearly wins here.
Conclusion: The most important features
First of all: In terms of performance, all three console types are the same .
Contrary to its name, the Switch Lite cannot be “switched”. This means that it can only be operated on a mobile basis and not on the TV. Otherwise, it has the same connections as the other switch models, including a microSD slot. The buttons and other controls (microSD slot, headphone jack, USB port, speakers) are also arranged in a similar way. However, there is no kickstand on the back of the Switch Lite to set the console up.
The Switch OLED is the improved version of the old Switch. It has a larger display with OLED technology. There’s also 64GB of internal storage, an improved kickstand, and improved sound. The Switch-OLED dock has one less USB-A port, but has its own LAN port.
Switch Lite vs regular Switch models
Are the buttons different?
- The Joy-Cons are permanently attached to the Switch Lite’s body and cannot be removed.
- The button configuration is similar, except that the Switch Lite has a directional pad on the left side.
- This makes it easier to use, especially retro games or 2D platformers.
- The Switch Lite’s buttons have a similar feel to the Switch’s, but seem to “click” a little quieter when you press them.

Can I play all the games on the Switch Lite that can be played on the regular Switch?
- No. If games require the rumble vibration, Joy-Con motion controls, or IR motion camera from one of the Joy-Cons, you won’t be able to play them on the Switch Lite.
- However, these games will still work on the Switch Lite if you purchase or already have separate Joy-Cons .
The following games, among others, do not work on the Switch Lite:
- super mario party
- Ring Fit Adventure
- Nintendo Lab
- just dance
- fitness boxing
- 1-2 switches
Can I play downloaded games on Switch Lite and Switch?
- Yes. Games can be downloaded and played on multiple Nintendo Switch consoles if both consoles are linked to the same Nintendo Account.
- The primary switch is always the one with which you first opened the Nintendo eShop when you were connected to the internet.
- So you can play your games on the Switch and the Switch Lite at the same time .
I wish for these 25 SNES games on the switch
Does gyroscope aiming still work like it did on the original Switch?
- For example, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game , instead of aiming with the analog sticks, you can use motion controls to aim by holding the switch in the desired direction.
- This still works on the Switch Lite.
Does the rumble feature still work in Super Mario Odyssey (Moons)?
The Switch Lite does not have a rumble function. In Super Mario Odyssey, the regular Switch uses the HD Rumble feature to show where some moons are hiding in the ground. How does that work with the Switch Lite, which no longer has an HD rumble function?
The screen content shakes instead of the controllers vibrating at different rates.
What happens when you put the Switch Lite in a Switch dock?
- Although Nintendo’s smaller switch console is called “Switch Lite”, it cannot “switch”.
- That means you can’t connect it to the TV , even though the USB-C output is there.
- Because the Switch Lite does not fit in the dock of the original Switch.
- If you force it, the Switch Lite can break.
Alternative docks: There are docks that a Switch Lite will fit in, but they still won’t display an image on the TV. We also don’t recommend using a third-party dock, as they have broken some Switch consoles in the past.
Can I charge the Switch Lite with the Switch power adapter?
- Yes. The included power supply of the Switch Lite is the same.
- So you can charge both consoles with it.
- What happens when the Joy-Cons on the Switch Lite drift?
- Of course, when that happens, you can’t swap them out as easily as you could with the original Switch.
- We can’t yet estimate how reliable the Joy-Cons on the Switch Lite are.
- However, there are already some user reports on Reddit reporting a drifting Switch Lite.
- If the Joy-Cons on the Switch Lite start to drift, you can probably send the entire console in and fix it for free, similar to the Switch Joy-Cons .
- Tip: Nintendo Switch 2: what comes after the “Switch Lite”?
- Hands covering the speakers on the Switch Lite?
- If you have large hands, the palms of your hands may cover the speakers located on the bottom sides of the Switch.
- Then the sound sounds very dull.
- The only thing that helps here is a different posture or you can use the appropriate handles for the Switch Lite .
- My Opinion: Nintendo had a prime opportunity to just call the “Switch Lite” “Lite Switch”, but they screwed it up 😀
