New business figures from Nintendo show that interest in the Nintendo Switch is waning.

Nintendo has a hard time swallowing: the switch is going downhill

Nintendo has a hard time swallowing: the switch is going downhill, The Nintendo Switch has been on the market for over six years – Nintendo has already sold more than 125 million consoles. One would think that interest in the handheld console would never wane. However, the new business figures prove the opposite.

Nintendo Switch sales are falling rapidly

With the Switch, Nintendo landed a real hit – and the company had it badly after the Wii U flopped. The new hybrid console has been on the market since 2017, and there are now three different models for sale: the normal Switch, the Switch Lite and the OLED model . Again and again, Nintendo managed to break one sales record after the other. That’s enough of that.

As the company’s year-end report shows, sales of the Nintendo Switch have fallen sharply over the past fiscal year . Although Nintendo still managed to sell 17.97 million consoles , sales fell by 22.1 percent compared to the previous year . Nintendo itself states that the lack of semiconductors, which lasted until the summer of 2022, is to blame. In addition, the company had expected that sales would increase more strongly at Christmas time in 2022, as was the case in the previous year (source: Nintendo ).

Is the Nintendo Switch 2 finally coming?

Even if the Nintendo Switch has now clearly passed its zenith, the handheld console business for Nintendo should still be worthwhile. Nevertheless, the rumor mill assumes that the successor to the popular hybrid console will not be long in coming.

Maybe Nintendo will take the fans’ criticism to heart and deliver these features in the successor:

Nintendo needs to improve: The switch still lacks these 6 features today

It is currently assumed that the Switch 2 could be launched in the second half of 2024 . However, Nintendo itself has not yet officially commented on the release of the next console. However, a recent financial report explains that the studio did not include a new console in its sales figures until March 2024 . That’s not surprising either. After all, a premature announcement would put a severe damper on Nintendo Switch sales.
